I recently volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House which is a house that provides accommodation and support for families whose children are hospitalized. I worked on an art night during the holidays for the children in this house. I decided to switch it up and bake cookies so that the children can decorate and eat and gingerbread houses were brought as well. The cookies were baked fresh at the house and everyone seemed to love it. Visiting the Ronald McDonald House was truly an enlightening experience. I was touched by the warmth and care provided to the families. The dedication of the staff and volunteers was inspiring, showing me the power of community support. I learned that even in tough times, such as a child's illness, the strength of human spirit shines through. It taught me the importance of empathy and giving back to the community. It was a reminder that every little act of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life. When I was younger, my older cousin was diagnosed with cancer and had to spend most of her high school years stuck in a hospital bed. My brother and I visited her almost everyday in order to cheer her up. Having experienced what families go through when a child is sick and in the hospital inspired me to give back. I saw the importance of bringing a little bit of joy to the kids and their siblings as well as preparing meals for the families after a long stressful day in the hospital. My cousin now sits on the Ronald McDonald board to help others which I plan to do as well . I definitely enjoyed my time there and can’t wait to go back!
