This past weekend I worked with Tai Collins, the co-founder and Executive Director of A Chance for Children Foundation, on a holiday event at the Grove for the children of Middleton Street Elementary School. With help from the Buffalo Club and the Vikings, we were able to keep the Barnes & Noble closed for a little longer in order for the kids to find one to two toys they love, and a book to read at home. I was paired with 6 wonderful and lively kids. After I took them to choose their gifts, we took them to the cafe to get milk, cookies, and a photo with Santa. We then walked the kids over to the movies at AMC Theatres, where they all got treats and watched the new Disney movie Wish. I had a wonderful time connecting with my group. I learned so many valuable lessons including the importance of appreciating what you have. It broke my heart to hear that this was the first movie in a theatre that most of the kids in my group had ever seen. They were so excited to experience something that most get to do whenever they please. Just by observing the kids, you can tell that they grew up with good values. While most kids would want to keep their toys to themselves, they opened their toys and shared will all of the people around them. During the movie, the two little girls who sat with me noticed I didn't have a snack basket and kept offering their food to me. They were very mindful of others and their surroundings. They are driven by pure kindness. These are the core values that I aspire to live by each and every day. It was definitely a magical and memorable day for all!
